about

Cenotaph No.8 is a sing-along losers’ anthem. Ilya Popenko, an unemployed 40-year old immigrant, recovering alcoholic who lives with roommates, and the front man of Mad Meg attempted using dating apps, which, in order to get any results, require one to put their best foot
forward. Unsure which foot was his best, Ilya wrote this song. Written during the pandemic, but unlike all the other tracks on Mad Meg’s upcoming album “Who Deserves Balloons and Medals?”, Cenotaph No.8 was recorded remotely at the band members’ home studios. Dan
Veksler (guitar) laid down the guitar tracks, then the rest of the band sent in their vocal parts, and the tracking was finished off with Igor Reznik’s bass.

lyrics

I am too poor for you
I am too poor for you
Living off the taxpayer dollar Russian Jew
I really like you but I’m too poor for you

I am too old for you
I am too old for you
I have never felt young even when I was brand new
I really like you but I’m too old for you

I am too sick for you
I am too sick for you
When you were out jogging I was out there sniffing glue
I really like you but I’m too sick for you

I am too poor for you
I am too poor for you
Living off the taxpayer dollar Russian Jew
I really like you but I’m too poor for you
